I directed that, calling attention to paragraphs 15 to 21, and remands occurring in the proceedings of our Police Courts, to be referred to the present Acting Police Magistrates, informing them at the same time that I approved of the recommendations of the Committee, and directed that they should be carried out in future. I believe that my instructions have been carried out. Anonymous statements to the contrary have been made but without foundation, and there is reason for supposing that they originate in personal ill feeling towards one of the Magistrates.
